Product Description

A superior insulin resistance formula. Horses are often fed high carbohydrate diet in order to improve performance, but this often can lead to metabolic problems resulting in poor body condition, sub-optimal glucose utilization and recurring episodes of laminitis. SimmIRdown is a remarkable product, helping improve glucose utilization and preventing laminitic episodes. Feed in conjunction with HOOFmaster to speed up hoof growth.

An excellent product for starch-sensitive horses who show periodic subclinical laminitis! My experience with it has been in the form of stunning hoof improvements. I would highly recommend Simmerdown for horses with thin, flat soles, soft hoof quality, slow hoof growth, thin or brittle hoofwalls, or any type of laminitis-related hoof problem.

I have owned my now 19 year old AQHA gelding, Three Bars The Fifth, since he was a yearling. Even as a young horse, he’s always had soft, easily-flared, thin-soled hooves. He wore shoes on the fronts every summer from age 4 til age 14, and even then, he always had trouble on hard ground. He “went barefoot” in January 2008 and I quickly realized his problems weren’t only due to poor hoof balance— he was also showing the effects of grass-induced laminitis.

However, despite keeping him off the grass and changing his diet to low/zero-starch, he continued to have laminitic flare-ups at random times with no obvious trigger for them, and keeping adequate solar concavity was always a challenge. Treating him with other products for hindgut (cecal) acidosis in 2011 did not bring about any major improvement to his hooves either.

A friend recommended that I try Simmerdown, so I bought a bucket in October 2011. By November, “Gooser” had hooves that were unrecognizable. For the first time in his entire life, the horse had over half an inch of solar concavity depth, TONS of hoof growth, and thick hoofwalls. He was sound as a post on gravel and hard ground.

His hooves were doing so well that I experimentally took him off Simmerdown about a month ago. Well, his hooves practically flattened overnight and his hoofwall started flaking. Hard ground was suddenly a major challenge.

He has now been back on Simmerdown for two weeks and already I’m seeing major improvements in his solar concavity and hoofwall thickness. I am extremely satisfied with the results that Simmerdown has shown on these challenging set of hooves.

I have pre-emptively added it to the diet of my barrel horse, 16 year old ApHC gelding, Zip Code Bay B, who has also has laminitis and starch-sensitivity in his history. Both boys will be on Simmerdown for the rest of their days.

Thank you for mixing up such a fabulous, hoof-saving product!
